The Programme

We are 1hr a Day and we are excited to test our new programme in Ealing!!! With us you are going to be able to imagine your game, create it, play it, and be active. For us, the best way to be active and have fun is not always through playing structured sports, but games!

There are loads of games that already exist but why not create the ones of your dreams?

We want you to meet other people
We want you to make new friends
We want you to use your imagination
We want you to make your imagination go wild
We want you to create your own ideas
We want you to present your ideas
We want you to have fun !

The 1hr a Day Recreation Ecosystem

The programme 1hr a Day  offers is a service that relies on an innovative and fun game ecosystem composed of five main elements: a wristband, an avatar app, a game club, a tournament, and a league. The programme consists of:

A Set of Devices

Those attending the club and the tournament have to wear a thigh device that measures the quantity of steps done as well as the types of movements (like standing still, moving out and about, running), which is then feedback through the wrist device.

The Creation of an Avatar

For every tournament or club session, children wear a wristband device that measures their physical activity levels. The avatar is created based on a conversion of physical activity following our very own 1hr a Day methodology.

Borne out from the health recommendations, our algorithm has been developed to reward a healthy balance of activities, as well as sustaining progress over time.

A Club

It is a weekly post-curricular session during which attendees co-create games to promote physical activity. It is not necessarily about creating ball based games!

Children are in charge of deciding what they want to play and it is an opportunity for them to co-create the game of their choice! The sessions take place in the school, and lasts about an hour and half.

A Tournament

The tournaments take place every twelve weeks and gather children from other 1hr a Day school clubs in Ealing.

They often take place at the weekend since they last 6h, and we are constantly changing our venue. During the tournaments, the children from each school taking part in the tournament pick the game(s) they created and team up to compete in a friendly way against those from the other clubs.

A League

This is a competition between all the children taking part in the programme, across ages, communities… Depending on the physical activity done during the clubs and tournaments, players compete to be the first in the league.

During the programme, data is captured on our 1hr a Day device. This data is essential for the delivery of the service as it contains measurements of the movement of a participant. The data is stored on the device but will be uploaded to a secure web platform owned by 1hr a Day, after which it will be wiped from the device. The data stored on our secure web platform is private and anonymised in a way that it cannot be traced to any individual child, apart from the 1hr a Day  team. It will not be shared, sold or otherwise communicated with any third parties without explicit prior consent.

The safety of children is of paramount importance to 1hr a Day. Our health coaches supervise and monitor all activities done by participants and actively facilitate the creation process to ensure the games created are safe and risks of injury are minimised. That said, all physical activity carries an element of risk of tripping or falling. Parents or carers of all participants must inform 1hr a Day of any underlying medical conditions and sign a full risk disclosure document in advance of enrolment.
